The Color of Violence - Youthanize (2009)

The Color of Violence, man. These guys are crazy, they take Grindcore, Thrash, Mathcore, Post-Hardcore, and Screamo and throw em all in a blender until they become one uniform mix. These guys are so original and refreshing I was shocked (SHOCKED) to find out that this is actually the brainchild of two members of From First to Last, you know, that really terrible emo band that inexplicably blew up a few years back. It makes you think, not every member of every shitty band is an untalented and uncreative as they make themselves out to be, some of them are talented musicians that just care more about getting paid then about art. But hey, as long as we keep getting awesome side projects like The Color of Violence, then keep making your paper, boo boo.

Circa Survive - Juturna (2005)

This was probably the hardest time I've had picking a song off an album,

had to go with "The Glorious Nosebleed" in the end

This album was an eye-opener for me in a lot of ways. For one, it was probably the first album that I listened to and thought "wow, I've never heard anything like that before." Unlike all the other bands on my iPod at the time that all sounded more or less the same, these guys had their own unique, and quite refreshing, sound. They raised the bar on what I considered to be 'good' music. I wouldn't exactly say this album is a 'must listen' by any means, but if you enjoy Progressive Rock, Math Rock, Indie, or Emo, and you enjoy complex and intricate songwriting that will keep you gripped start to finish, you should definetly click the button bellow.

I never thought there would come a time when I would actually feel sentimental towards the Emo genre. In my "Scene" days I couldn't get enough of it. Thankfully after I turned 18 I realized just how sad the concept of a bunch of guys wearing their little sisters jeans, flat-ironing their hair and writing songs about how they're upset because their high school girlfriend dumped them really is. That being said, there were (and still are) are a handful of Emo bands who's songs had enough substance to them to manage to keep their place in my itunes library long after their less talented counterparts have been sent to the recycling bin.

Armor for Sleep is one of those bands. After listening to this album I remember why I enjoyed the genre so much in the first place. Fun, 2-steppy riffs mixed with mellow-dramatic melodies and pleasant vocals. Is it the most amazing album ever? No, But it is a nice stroll down memory lane.

Jeer at Rome - Demo

Anthony Greens been in more bands then most bands have albums, how many? Let's see, there's his Solo work, Circa Survive, The Sounds of Animals Fighting, Saosin, High and Driving, Zoloft the Rock and Roll Destroyer, Audience of One, and last but far from least, Jeer at Rome. That's 8 bands total... Before Anthony Green became renowned across the scenedom as the man with the golden voice, before he even graduated high school, he was shredding his vocal chords to pieces as the frontman of Jeer at Rome.

This band had some serious potential. I really wish they had kept with this band rather than stopping after recording only 4 songs, I can't help but imagine how different the scene would have been if THIS was the band that took off rather than Saosin . Think about how many bands have imitated the formula of one Falsetto clean singer and one screamer, would those bands have even existed? Makes you wonder...

Enter Shikari - Destabilise (Single) 2009

So Enter Shikari's released a track off of their upcoming album. I know there are a lot of people out there bashing on these guys right now for their zealous use of that Korg synth, but what else would you expect from them? That's just what they do, saying you think they're using too much synth in their songs is like saying you think there's too much bass in dubstep. All you haters can keep on hating if you want but I can't WAIT for the next Enter Shikari album.
